Street Fighter Basic Slang Terminology

Published by grits at 9:03 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Hello there guys- There are a few things that a lot of new Street Fighter players don’t really realize, and one of those things are some of the basic terminology. Of course there are other sites that give this out but much of it is not used these days and some is just incorrect in terms of recent usage.
Anyway lets get to it.
Buttons:Jab- aka LP, Light Punch etc this is the weakest normal punch.
Strong- aka MP, Medium Punch this is a stronger punch and usually between speed of jab and fierceFierce- aka FP, Hard Punch, or HP this is the strongest and usually slowest punchShort- aka LK, Weak Kick this is the weakest and usually fastest kickForward- See “Strong”Roundhouse- Hard Kick, HK, RH sometimes these days known as a “Fierce Kick” even though that is incredibly stupid. Terms:360/720 - A move that requires 6/12 directions on the Dpad/Stick/Analog to activate like a Zangief Spinning Piledriver/Final Atomic Buster superQCF- Quarter circle from down to forward, QCB is the opposite.HCB- Half circle from forward to back, HCFs do existSRK, DP- Shoryuken, or dragon punch forward, down, down forward + a button to do this move.Tiger Knee or TK- Motion done from down to up/forward named for the old Tiger Knee input which is now a DP motion. TK is also becoming the term for C Viper’s “Thunder Knuckle” special (Qcb+punch)Charge- Hold this direction then press up or forward to activate, charge supers require a quick back-forward-back motion to activate. Button charges are done by holding all 3 of Punch or Kick generally and applies to Balrog’s Turn Punch, El Fuerte has a one button charge move by holding and releasing one kick button. Game Terms:EX- Move performed by activating with 2 punch or kick buttons. Burns some Super Meter but has special propertiesSuper- A powerful combination done by either charge super motion or 2 quarter circles forward or back and a punch or kick.Ultra- see “super” but 3 punches or 3 kicks (SFIV only) Games:WW- World Warrior, the first Street Fighter II game 1991CE- Second Street Fighter II game 1992HF- Hyper FightingSuper- Super SFII wildly unpopular game before Super TurboST - Also called Super Turbo for Super SFII: TurboAlpha/Zero - Any game from the Alpha (US name)/ Zero (Japan) series.SFIII- Has 3 games, NG or New Generation, 2I or 2nd Impact, and 3s or 3rd StrikeMVC2- Marvel vs Capcom 2, America’s game. CVS- Capcom vs SNK had 1 and 2, 2 was called “Millionaire fighting”. SNK Playmore also made SVC and it sucked.CFJ - Capcom Fighting Jam, aka Capcom Fighting Evolution in the states… it sucked. AC- Hyper SFII Anniversary Collection, this game totally screwed up the naming system! Hyper should be Hyper Fighting!!SFIV- Street Fighter IV
